2011 Most-Fuel Efficient Car to Save Money Part 4

This is my 4th Part of article on 2011 Most-Fuel Efficient Car to Save Money

Lexus HS 250h-2011

Cost: $35,100-36,000
Fuel economy: 50 kmpg
Annual fuel cost: $1,270-1,400

That said, the CT200h not only has a much sportier appearance but is built on a totally different body platform and offers distinctly better handling than a Prius. It also comes with the luxury appointments that a Lexus buyer would expect, and provides the driver with a choice of four operating modes, Normal, Sport, Eco and EV.

The EV (Electric Vehicle) mode is an interesting one, with a maximum range of about two kilometres at a maximum speed of 40 km/ hour. It's a handy engine-off fuel saving feature that can be used in stop-and-go traffic and great for slow moving lineups, like a drive-thru or a border crossing.

Lexus expects the CT200h to compete directly against the Audi A3 TDI, winner of last year's Green Car of the Year award. It offers better fuel (gasoline instead of diesel) economy(4.6 L/100 km combined), especially when city driven, and its CO2 emissions are 40 per cent lower.

Volkswagen Golf TDI-2011

Price: $17,965-18,000
Fuel economy: 50 Kmpg
Annual fuel cost: $1,411-1,600

While modern diesel engines are far cleaner than a decade ago, they still aren't as clean as gasoline engines. But for fuel efficiency in a reliable small hatchback, the Volkswagen Golf TDI is still considered a good buy.

Volkswagen Jetta TDI-2011

Cost: $22,995-24,000
Fuel economy: 50 kmpg
Annual fuel cost: $1,411-1,600

Restyled for 2011, this compact hatchback is among the Volkswagen clean diesels, and at 34 mpg, it achieves impressive fuel economy, but still with more emissions than a comparable gas engine

Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen TDI-2011

Cost: $24,995-26,000
Fuel economy: 50 kmpg (7-8 mpg better than the gas engine)
Annual fuel cost: $1,394-1,500

The most fuel-efficient station wagon on the market in 2011 is the Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen, and while the clean diesel TDI costs about $5,000 more than the base gas engine model, it gets significantly better fuel economy.

Hyundai Elantra-2011

Cost: $15,000-15,000
Fuel economy: 50 kmpg
Annual fuel cost: $1,345-1,500

If your two most important criteria are value and fuel economy, the 2011 Hyundai Elantra represents the better choice," our reviewer writes in his comparison of the Hyundai Elantra and the Ford Focus.

Audi A3 TDI-2011

Cost: $29,950-31,000
Fuel economy: 50 kmpg
Annual fuel cost: $1,411-1,600

More expensive but more fuel-efficient than its cousins, the Audi A3 TDI runs on diesel fuel and is considered an entry-level luxury hatchback.

Nissan Altima Hybrid-2011

Cost: $26,780-28,000
Fuel economy: 50 kmpg
Annual fuel cost: $1,345-1,400

Nissan's answer to the Prius is the Altima Hybrid, a midsize family sedan that gets good reviews from critics, but less-impressive fuel economy on the road

Ford Focus-2011

Cost: $16,000-17,000
Fuel economy: 50 kmpg
Annual fuel cost: $1,345-1,500

"For an amazing combination of fuel economy, value, customizability, and performance, the 2012 Ford Focus is the overall winner," our reviewer writes in his comparison of the Hyundai Elantra and the Ford Focus. But expect to pay significantly more than the base price for a fully loaded vehicle.
