2011 Super Bowl Fun and Interesting Facts

The Super Bowl is probably one of the most important sporting events in a calendar year in the United States.

1. It is the championship game between the champions of the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC).

2. Super Bowl games are represented by Roman numerals and not the year that the game is played in. Therefore, Super Bowl 2011 is denoted as Super Bowl XLV.

3. The scheduled Super Bowl 2011 date is the 6th of Feb, 2011

4. Super Bowl 2011 is scheduled for the 6th of February, 2011 and the selected venue for the game is the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

5. Super Bowl 2011 is the first instance for the championship game to be played in the Dallas Fort Worth area.

6. Super Bowl history shows that the first ever championship game was played between the National Football League (NFL) and its rival American Football League (AFL) on 15th of January, 1967 as per their merger agreement. According to this agreement, the champions of the two teams would play a world championship game until the merger was finalized and put into effect in 1970. Once the merger was finalized, the two leagues were designated as conferences under the National Football League.

7. The Super Bowl 2011 location is the Cowboys stadium in Arlington, Texas. The stadium has a seating capacity of almost 80,000 and it is the fourth largest stadium in the National Football League.

8. Super Bowl tickets, as mentioned, are not easy to come by. The majority of the tickets are first distributed amongst the participating teams, the other NFL teams and the tam hosting the event. The National Football League teams participating in the Super Bowl get about 75 percent of the Super Bowl Tickets. The hosting team gets around 9 percent of the tickets. Other NFL teams, who are not participating in the Super Bowl, are given around 1 percent of the tickets. The National Football League gives the remaining 25 percent of tickets to season ticket holders, VIPs, sponsors, media, charities, companies affiliated with the NFL, and the Host Committee.

9. The National Football League sells tickets to the general public only through the Super Bowl Random Drawing process. You cannot get Super Bowl tickets any other way. Keep in mind that the National Football League does not sell tickets to ticket vendors or agents, so if you find anyone offering you any they're probably out to stiff you. Only about 500 pairs of Super Bowl tickets are available through the Random Drawing and practically every single American Football fan out there will be scrambling for them, so be prepared for a very stiff competition. Each ticket costs around $400.

10. The Super Bowl Random Drawing may seem like a lottery, but actually there is no fee for participation. You can send in only one request per household; if you send in more than requests, they will simply discard them.
